4- and 5-Month Pictures

I can't lie to you. I've been really good about taking Sydney's monthly pictures right at her month-iversaries (Chet's word, not mine, but I like it), but her 4-month pictures were taken June 19th, just eight days before her five-month photos. I promise I won't do that again, especially since she looks the same in both shoots! (By the way, thank you Rachel and Sam for the adorable outfits Sydney is wearing!)

Four (-ish) Months

Five Months

Each time we do this, Sydney gets tired and lets her head fall back on the Boppy pillow that's helping prop her up.

And here are a few more cute/funny pictures, because I can't resist! (Babies make some of the most hilarious faces...)

On June 1st I was promoted from Lieutenant Junior Grade to Lieutenant! The little ceremony was held where I work, and the Commodore (my boss) administered the oath and Chet pinned the new Lieutenant bars on my collar. My friend Rachel was also promoted from Ensign to Lieutenant Junior Grade the same day!

Memorial Day Weekend in Texas

I'm finally blogging about our trip to Texas! Chet, Sydney, and I flew to Houston Wednesday, May 26th and stayed until Monday, May 31st. (Side note: We also flew to Houston last Memorial Day weekend for Grant's graduation, which was the same weekend I found out I was pregnant with Sydney!) Sydney did great on the plane. She played a little, slept a little, and cried a little, but the ambient noise on the plane was so loud her crying didn't disturb anyone. Thank goodness!

We had so much fun on our trip. Sydney was finally able to meet P-ma, Uncle Grant, Papa Dave, and many members of our extended family. Thursday we took Sydney to my mom's office so that she could meet my mom's coworkers, and Friday we met Casey and her daughter Cori at the mall. Cori played at the indoor playground while Casey held Sydney and we all visited, and then we decided (out of nowhere!) to get Sydney's ears pierced. (Well, it wasn't entirely out of nowhere. Casey had Cori's ears pierced at the mall's Merle Norman, so it seemed logical to do it with Casey's recommendation and support!) Sydney cried, of course, but was over it in five minutes, and the new earrings haven't bothered her since! They look beautiful, but Chet thinks they make her look more bald. (Speaking of bald, Sydney is growing more hair very quickly, but it's blond, making her appear as bald as ever!) Friday was also Sydney's first time to go swimming, and she loved it! She loved leaning back in the water and kicking and splashing...she was exhausted that night!

On Saturday we went to my dad's house and Sydney was able to meet my Uncle Starkey, Aunt Sheila, cousins Starla and Shelby, great Aunt Pat, cousin Joni, and cousin Taylor. The house was full of great food and great company, resulting in a great time!
On Sunday Chet and I left Sydney with Didi and Papa Dave and went to the movies to see "Date Night", then we all met at Pappasito's afterwards for my yearly Mexican food fix. Sadly we had to leave the next day, Monday, but we had a wonderful time! Sydney and I will be back for Christmas!

4-Month Doctor Appointment

It's been a while since I've updated (and I have so much to update), but I'm going to start with something easy so as not to overwhelm myself!

Monday was Sydney's 4-month doctor appointment, with a new doctor. She has been seeing a pediatrician from the hospital where she was born, and although he's great and completely in tune with all of her issues, we really needed to switch her to the Mayport clinic in order to eliminate the long drive. Anyway, the appointment went very well. She weighs exactly 13 lbs (although she was also wearing a soaking wet diaper at the time, so I'm going to say she's between 12 and 13 lbs), and is 24" long (but I'm not so sure about that either because the measuring device didn't seem very appropriate for a wiggly infant). Anyway, these numbers put her in approximately the 25th percentile, and the doctor said she was proportional, so I guess that's what matters! During the visit Sydney surprised the doctor with her new found separation anxiety and showed off her bottom teeth. The doctor predicted her top teeth will cut through in the next couple of weeks! (Maybe I should start feeding her steak instead of milk...) Sydney also received her second round of shots, which is never fun.
Here are recent pictures of Sydney in her Bumbo. I attached the tray for the first time the other day and put some toys on it to see what she would do. Her eyes got huge and she started reaching and grabbing for them, sometimes picking them up, sometimes not. It's so cute to watch her learn how to use her hands!

Hello, everyone. Yesterday I found out that one of my college friends died in a car accident on Monday. He was in the Marine Corps, and he and his family were moving from North Carolina to California. On the drive to California, the Uhaul he was driving blew a tire, causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic. His wife and two young sons were following him in a separate vehicle, and are unharmed. Please pray for his wife and sons as they cope with their loss.
